Home Movies Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 10, 2026

Home Movies is provided by Blockchainia LLC. Questions about privacy or beta support can be sent to support@blockchainia.us.

Your recordings and settings

Home Movies records and edits videos on your iPhone. The app stores recordings, audio, tape names, cover selections and cached cover images, capture dates and timezone offsets, tape positions, edit references, archives, effects profiles, and preferences in its app-private storage. These are used to record, play, edit, and export your movies. Custom titles and recorded date/time stamps may become part of the exported picture when enabled.

Home Movies does not require an account, operate a cloud-sync service, display advertising, or include a Blockchainia analytics or advertising-tracking service. The app does not request your location or upload your tape library to Blockchainia LLC. Device backups are controlled by your Apple/device settings and may include app data; an in-app archive is not protection against device loss.

Permissions and local processing

  • Camera: provides live previews and records video when you use the recorder.
  • Microphone: records sound with video and optional temporary audio-preview samples. You can deny microphone permission and record silent video.
  • Add to Photos: saves a finished export to Photos when you request it. The app does not require permission to read your existing photo library.
  • Local network: discovers compatible TVs and delivers the selected finished video over your Wi-Fi network when you use Cast. AirPlay uses Apple's system routing. Casting does not upload your videos to a Blockchainia cloud service.
  • Available storage and media information: checks remaining disk space and reads clip duration, dimensions, and related technical information to safely record and export. These checks are processed locally.

Watching on a TV

Choosing AirPlay or Cast prepares a temporary finished video in the app's cache. The app retains its most recent prepared video for reuse; the operating system can remove cached files when storage is needed. Leaving Watch stops the app's TV playback and closes its local video server.

Chromecast integration includes Google's Cast SDK and Default Media Receiver. The selected receiver receives the video's title and a temporary local URL for playback. The bundled Google Cast SDK declares device identifiers, product interaction, and other diagnostic data for analytics and app functionality. Its privacy manifest marks these categories as not linked to your identity and not used for tracking. Google's SDK and receiver services are distinct from Blockchainia's storage of your recordings. See Google's privacy policy for its practices.

You can change camera, microphone, Photos, and local-network permissions in iOS Settings. You can stop casting from Watch and change AirPlay destinations with Apple’s picker.

Exporting, sharing, and backups

When you choose Save to Photos or Share, the selected movie is delivered to Photos or the app/destination you choose. That destination's storage, backup, sharing, and privacy practices apply. For example, iCloud Photos may synchronize exports according to your Apple settings. Home Movies does not control those destinations.

Retention and deletion on your device

Recordings and their archive references remain in the app until deleted. Deleting a cassette removes its associated archives; underlying media is removed when no remaining cassette or archive uses it. Automatic before-edit safety archives expire after 30 days and are cleaned up when the app next performs its cleanup.

Audio-preview samples are temporary authoring aids, not permanent recordings. Export work files are temporary and cleaned up by the app. Uninstalling the app removes its local app data. Copies in Photos, shared destinations, and device backups are separate and must be managed there. Deletion is not a guarantee of secure physical erasure from storage or removal from separate backups.

TestFlight beta testing and support

When you install a beta through TestFlight, Apple automatically collects usage and crash information and shares it with the developer. Feedback you send through TestFlight can include comments, screenshots, device details, and contact details; what is visible depends on how you joined the beta. This is separate from Home Movies' local recording engine. See Apple's TestFlight privacy notice.

We use information you send to support@blockchainia.us, and diagnostic/feedback information made available through TestFlight, to respond to requests and improve the app. Avoid sending sensitive recordings or screenshots unless you intend to share them. The app does not automatically send your movies to us.

We delete Home Movies support correspondence and diagnostic or feedback copies that we retain 90 days after the issue is resolved. You may request access or earlier deletion by emailing support@blockchainia.us. We may need to verify the request belongs to you. This policy applies to copies held by Blockchainia LLC; Apple and other services control their own retention. Your recordings stay on your device unless you choose to share them.

Privacy questions and changes

Contact support@blockchainia.us with privacy questions or requests concerning information you supplied to us. Your on-device tape library is managed from the app or device settings; we cannot remotely retrieve or delete it. We will update this policy and its effective date if our practices change.
